ASPARAGUS (Asparago) argenteuil

  • Con from the Gold Coast sent this photo of his asparagus taken in April 2010. His notes follow:

Germination was quite quick. Seeds were sown into the garden bed on 03 October and the first shoots were through on 19 October 2009. In a matter of weeks after the shoots came through, I had to stake the plants, as they were growing quite quickly. You advised me to feed the plants regularly as they are gross feeders and I have done this weekly.

Product Description

A French variety from the outskirts of Paris. Early variety with tasty, tender tips. Plant seed in a seed bed to produce crowns in the first year and then transplant into their permanent position in fertile, well-drained soil. Do not cut in the first year year and only lightly in the following season, and then increase cutting over the next 3 years. At the end of the cutting season allow to grow up to reinvigourate the crowns.  Cut back in winter and mulch with compost or washed seaweed. Will deliver for 20 or so years.
