Aniseed is grown mainly for its seed which has a sweet and distincive taste and is used to flavour spirits such as French pastis, Greek ouzo and Turkish arak. It is also utilised in a variety of culinary uses such as in bread, cakes and sweets.

Sow seeds in early spring into pots or punnets. Germination takes 1-2 weeks.  Plant seedlings in well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. 5g about 1,500 seeds.
